The Sakya tradition is one of the four major sects of Tibetan Buddhism. Many great and distinguished practitioners, saint and scholars belong to the Sakya order. Pioneered by the five patriarchs of the Sakya tradition followed by the Five Partriarchs are the Six Ornaments of Tibet to which belongs Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo who was highly learned in the Tantras.
One of the three noble beings, widely known as Zangpo Namsum, Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo brought Buddhism to the land of Lo during the reign of King Ame Pal, the first religious king of Lo.
The Lo region is a thriving haven for the ancient Buddhist tradition and a source of universal benefit. In 1427, the cornerstones of Mon Choe Dragkar Thegchen Ling were laid by Ngochen Dorje Chang and to these days, it is a centre of thriving monastery of Sakya tradition.
